When moving into a new college dorm, you are presented with a blank canvas that you are free to customize with your own personal style. However, this task can be daunting as you may not know where to start. Remember this: don't settle for a neutral color palette just because you are unsure or don't want to clash with you're roommate. It's where you're living too so you should treat it as such.
TIP: If you really don't know where to begin, contact your roommate and find some colors that you both enjoy and coordinate your room that way. When you have a color palette, it is easier to decide on what to add to the room. My roommate and I chose coral, light blue, and purple to follow and our room is by the far the best in out building.
Storage
Since you are sharing a space, some sort of storage unit is essential. These may be better in those neutral colors and try to stay away from clear bins. When you are able to see your stuff, the room looks more cluttered then it is. Also, search out tall, slender cabinets as they will take up less space.
I brought a locker from home and used command strips to add a monogrammed piece I made. |
Personalize, Personalize, Personalize
Those small little personal elements are what will really bring your room to life. Whether its a small monogrammed piece or a picture of you and your best friend, it'll make your dorm feel like a room in your own home.
